LABORATORY FOR INNOVATIVE DANCE AND PERFORMANCE PRACTICE
ANNOUNCING NEW BOOK BY JACKY LANSLEY ‘THE SPEAKING DANCER: FINDING HUMANITY THROUGH THE EMBODIED VOICE’
I started to write my book The Speaking Dancer as an imaginative and radical exploration of dance and performance, which focuses on how ideas and meaning speak through the body as-well as the voice. I approached the publisher Routledge who were supportive and interested, and over the interim years I formed a very inspiring dialogue with their team. I wanted to write a book which placed dance at the centre of embodied life, and explore why this was becoming urgent in our tech industrialised world. It’s journey weaves together disciplines which are assumed to be separate: dance and speaking, dance and politics, dance and philosophy and even dance and art.
FOR THEM
Four short dance films by Jacky Lansley
Over the pandemic, DRS Artistic Director Jacky Lansley tasked herself with creating short dances for camera as a way to keep moving and creating. ‘For Them’ – a suite of four films – is a result of that process.
